We are preparing for our eighth year of performing during AirVenture week. Join fellow musical aviation enthusiasts for this year's band. Learn more about the band under the About tab on this website. Get current updates concerning the band on our Facebook page.
Dear EAA Band Members,
Well, what a concert we have planned for AirVenture this summer! We now have 71 people signed up and it’s looking good! Thank you for being a part of this year’s band!
Here is the final line up of music:
Those Magnificent Men
On Wings of My Own
Salute to America
This is My Country
Right Stuff (starting at rehearsal mark #173)
Salute to America’s Finest (Armed Forces Medley)
Encore: March Grandioso
We have a new march we will be premiering this summer. It is titled, On Wings of My Own.
It was written by one of our new alto sax players, Paul Abbott. He like many of you, has been to AirVenture many times, but last summer was his first year with the band. He enjoyed his first experience with the EAA band so much last summer, he was inspired to do some writing and he wrote, On Wings of My Own. I’m sure you will enjoy playing this new entry! By the way, this is the third piece of music that has been written for and premiered by the AirVenture Concert Band.
The music for this year's AirVenture Band is ready for distribution. To save money, the music will again be emailed to all band members again this year. Your music will be sent to you in PDF format. Please print it out and bring all of your music with you to all rehearsals.
Take your time learning your parts. We will only have time to go through the music a few times before the concert and it is so important for you to know it before you get to Oshkosh. One of the main problems over the past few years has been balance, blend and tuning. Tuning has been a big issue and is hard to work out with the amount of time we have. So bring your ears and adjust!
There are some technically difficult spots in this year’s music. So take your time and learn it well!
You’ll need to bring a folding music stand, so don’t forget it!
This Summer's Schedule
The schedule has just been finalized for this year's AirVenture. Our first rehearsal will be Tuesday morning at 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on stage in the Theater in the Woods. Last year we ran into problems setting up the stage before the nine o’clock start time, so they have asked us to wait until after nine. We will start as soon as we can get everything set up. Wednesday’s rehearsal will also be from 9:00 to 11:00 in the Pober Pixie Tent next to the pavilion.
We once again will be performing for the Tuesday Airshow. We will be playing a few numbers and then the National Anthem before the airshow. We’ll meet by the announcer’s stand in uniform with instruments by 2:00. The concert is scheduled for Theater in the Woods on Wednesday, 5:00 pm to 5:45 pm. We will start warmup and tuning at 4:00 in concert dress on stage.
We have run into problems over the last couple of years with people missing a rehearsal. With only two rehearsals, it is important to be at both rehearsals.
We are going to be using our green polo shirts again this year with tan khaki pants.
The shirts have been ordered based on your registration that you filled out. I have ordered the polo shirts and will be paying for them at pickup time.
I’ll need to receive a $15.00 check to cover the cost of your shirt. If you would want more than one shirt, just add $15.00 to your check and let me know what size you want. XL's please add $2.00.
If you have any questions, please email me at AirVentureBand [at] gmail.com.
